Energy Independence is crucial for America

Over the last two decades we have seen an exponential increase in Energy Development in the United States. Thanks to new technologies such as horizontal drilling that has unlocked the Bakken in North Dakota, we are in a better position than ever before to ensure that America dominates the global energy scene.

It is imperative that the Biden administration recognizes the crucial need for traditional energy development, and gives credit to our producers for upholding the best environmental and safety standards in the world. The rush to force alternative green energy down the throats of all Americans is an expensive proposition that makes our grid less stable and shifts the control of the energy sector to nations like China, who have horrible environmental standards but control the vast majority of the rare earth minerals crucial to battery cell development.

I’m happy to join with my colleagues from across the nation to urge the Biden Administration to implement policies that promote American Energy Production.

As my colleagues and I say in our letter:

“Policies implemented during the last year thwart the vitality of American energy production. Consequently, Americans are paying more for gas than ever before. The rising cost of fuel, coupled with precipitous inflation has, and will, continue to result in dire consequences for working-class families.

Long before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, gas prices in the U.S. had been on a rapid upswing as a result of decisions to cancel the Keystone XL Pipeline, freeze new oil and gas leases on federal lands, order the cessation of drilling in Alaska, and promulgate anti-oil and gas rulemaking from the highest levels of government. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has only intensified the consequences of already failing energy policies and highlighted the need to re-establish American energy independence.”

It is my sincere hope that the Biden Administration ends its assault on American energy producers, and on states like North Dakota that depend on that production. Maintaining energy production here in North Dakota, and across our nation is vital to our economy, and essential for maintaining our national security.
