Treasurer Beadle has joined financial officers in 17 states urging congressional leaders and the US Department of Labor to enact healthcare price transparency and hold health-plan service providers accountable.
βThe ever rising costs of healthcare in this nation have had drastic impacts on all American citizens. It goes beyond their own pocketbooks and healthcare expenses, but the rising costs on businesses themselves impacts our citizens investments, public pension accounts, and our retirees. Shareholder value is being eroded and our national leaders need to take real steps to help address this issue.β Treasurer Thomas Beadle said.
According to analysis from the FTC, healthcare overcharging in the United States erodes shareholder value by driving up costs for employers and patients. Healthcare spending in the U.S. reached nearly $5 trillion in 2023, constituting 17.6% of GDP.
Treasurer Beadle and his fellow signors agree, as fiduciaries of public investment funds holding shares in publicly traded companies and of state Medicaid and employee/retiree health plan spending, health plan cost transparency isa key factor that will lead to considerable decreases in wasteful healthcare expenditures.
